Portlandia + Art Scout

Picture
Portlandia and Art Scout have been working together since 2012. Many people have ask me how I got involved it was as simple as sending an email at the right time. Back in 2012 I read that Portlandia was in search of  local artists to participate in the show. I sent them an email saying that I worked with a lot of local artists and that if they ever needed anything specific for the show they should let me know. A couple hours later I received a call from Production Designer Tyler Robinson. They had come across a challenging art related episode and wanted to meet up to discuss how I might be able to help. After signing a disclosure form they told me all about the ridiculous sketch, "Good Walls Bad Art" where they basically poked fun at my profession. I loved the idea and I had some creative solutions to offer.

The question that the Art Department had: how do we get tons of bad art and not insult anyone. So I put together a task force of talented artists mixed with a few friends who like myself had little to no artists talents. The list included Anna Magruder, Shawn Demarest, Andrew Ferguson, Rebecca Shapario, Jolie Guillebeau, Jenn Feeney, Nicole Daughters and Erica Lee Sears. Portlandia supplied us with warehouse space, canvases, paints, beers and pizza. We had a fun day of making the "Bad Art".

After shooting the sketch I persuaded Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, and guest star Sean Hayes to autograph the back of a few of these paintings that where then donated to a few organizations around town for fund raising.

During season 5 they found themselves looking for an Art Consultant they called me up after I had proving my creative problem solving skills and my ability to work in the face paced film industry we started a partnership that is still going strong.

I enjoy working with the Portlandia team and not only have I worked with local artists of all skills, ages and mediums to catalog art for the show I have also worked on a few really great projects. In Season 2 I work with talented photographer Andrew Ferguson on a photo scavenger hunt all around Portland and took photos that are still used on the show today. My favorite project by far was staging a photo shoot of a punk rock BBQ with the amazing photographer Ben Carlson and our punk rock model. We spent the day stealing a shopping cart to turn into a grill, spray painting tires and turning other objects into grills including a bike wheel, a wagon and a couple lawn chairs.

I find it very rewarding to work in such a creative fast paced business and I look forward to where it may lead me.

Clarity Innovations Gets A Few Art Renovations

After moving into larger office space within the Central Eastside Industrial District to accommodate its growing team, Clarity Innovations found itself in need of art that identified with their vision and values while also maintained its commitment to sustainability within the local community. Finding a balance between creative expression and professional decor for visiting clients was the challenge. Through a series of consultations, Art Scout found a mix of art that exceeded their expectations. Art Scout aided with the purchase of six pieces for their permanent collection, plus one rotating art piece on lease for their lobby.
"What made the process so easy was Bridget's ability to work with folks like me that don't 'speak' art well," recalls Thor Prichard, President & CEO of Clarity Innovations. "Art Scout is the perfect partner for any business looking to upgrade their office environment with high-quality locally sourced art."

Creative Imagination Collaboration

Picture
For years I have been working to support Art from the Heart a gallery and studio space that gives adults with disabilities an  environment that fosters their creative growth, build positive relationships within our community, and promote an awareness of the cultural contributions from people of all abilities. In 2013 I came up with a wonderful idea that would become an amazing adventure, an opportunity to involve Art Scout artists and the artists at Art from the Heart in a creative collaboration.

Creative Imagination Collaboration is a community art project that pairs adult artists with developmental disabilities and professional artists in the community to complete one body of work. The result being 12 unique pieces of art that are both uninhibited and tamed, polished and raw. The work was inspired and original. We raised a lot of money and awareness.

Downtown Artistry

Picture
2010 and 2011 Art Scout was chosen by the City of Portland to host a Pop Up Shop in Downtown over the Holidays, Downtown Artistry.  In a very short time Bridget organized a roster of some of her most favorite artists and with help from volunteers opened up a temporary gallery full of high quality art at affordable prices and lots of art focused events.  Downtown Artistry was such a success that she was asked to come for another year.  2011 season was a huge success with 300% more in sales and a huge increase in artists participation.

"Bridget, your efforts to activate the space and your overwhelming positive energy and attitude during this project have been amazing! We could not have asked for a better project partner in this experiment."
