Anna Magruder, The Sweetheart of the Portland Art SceneI have been working with Anna Magruder for over 3 years and not only is she an amazing artist that I have seen grow leaps and bounds in these few years, but she is one of the kindest people I have meet here in Portland. She is unpretentious and totally as approachable as her whimsical paintings. Anna was a graphic designer for 15 years before she took the daring plunge in 2009 into the life of a full-time painter, and her sense of adventure has paid off. Since then she has had countless shows around Portland, has a successful Etsy Shop, her work has appeared on Portlandia, she has been interviewed for OPB's Art Beat, and she has giving back to the community by donating art to several charities. She has also volunteered her time to Siren Nation a community that supports local female artists, musicians, film-makers and visionaries. "I am very much inspired by almost all things vintage. I am intrigued by the uniqueness of a particular item and the visual aesthetic of a bygone era. For me, thrift store finds and antique treasures often reveal interesting stories, as do the faces in old found photos. Currently, I am obsessed with faces and the stories behind them. I collect old yearbooks to have a time capsule of the hair and clothing styles of different eras." - Anna Magruder, 1859 Oregon Magazine Keep up the great work Anna. I for one can't wait to see what you do next.
